Ethiopia and Russia have reached an agreement to develop nuclear energy collaboratively according to reports from a number of reputable sources. This comes just weeks after 162 million US dollars worth of debt was written off Ethiopia’s balance sheet by Russian authorities. Senior officials met at The Ministry of Finance and Economic Cooperation in Addis Ababa this March to discuss a list of projects in engineering, science and technology. These projects will be undertaken by Russian and Ethiopian companies. According to the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, his country valued ‘‘Ethiopia’s responsible and balanced policy in world affairs and its active involvement in the African Union.”
የኢትዮጵያ ማዕድን፣ ነዳጅና ባዮፊውል ልማት ኮርፖሬሽን ከኢትዮጵያ ስኳር ኮርፖሬሽን ጋር በመተባበር በ1.1 ቢሊዮን ብር ወጪ የኤታኖል ፋብሪካ ሊገነባ ነው፡፡ የኤታኖል ፋብሪካው የሚገነባው በደቡብ ኦሞ ኩራዝ ሦስት የስኳር ፋብሪካ ሲሆን፣ ኤታኖሉ የሚመረተው ከኩራዝ አንድና ኩራዝ ሦስት የሚወጣውን ሞላሰስ በማጣራት እንደሆነ ታውቋል፡፡ በማዕድን፣ ነዳጅና ባዮፊውል ልማት ኮርፖሬሽን የነዳጅና ባዮፊውል ዘርፍ ምክትል ዋና ሥራ አስፈጻሚ አቶ ናደው ታደለ ለሪፖርተር እንደተናገሩት፣ ኮርፖሬሽናቸው ከስኳር ኮርፖሬሽን ጋር ተባብሮ የኤታኖል ማምረቻውን መገንባት የሚያስችለውን ስምምነት ሰኞ መጋቢት 10 ቀን 2010 ዓ.ም. ተፈራርሟል፡፡

Rapidly increasing urbanisation in Africa means two things: more waste and greater demand for electricity. In Ethiopia's capital, Addis Ababa, a new waste-to-energy plant is set to tackle both problems at the same time, by helping to dispose of three-quarters of the city's rubbish while generating enough electricity to power a third of the city.

Ethiopian Energy Authority said that it has been tirelessly working to utilize country’s energy potentials whilst maximizing the involvement of potential local and foreign investors in the sector. Geothermal Resource Development Director with the Authority Tesfaye Kassa told The Ethiopian Herald that consolidated efforts are underway to lure investors with the desirable capital, technology and expertise in the geothermal development.
Investors could maximize their profitability in furthering their engagement in geothermal sector that enable them to produce electricity without interruptions and harm in the environment, the Director recommended.
