The First Policy Brief Webinar on Ethiopian Energy Pathways will be held on 30th March, 2021ย between 12:30 and13:30 hours(UK time) and we would like to invite you to participate. The goal of theย Energy system development pathways for Ethiopia (PATHWAYS) project is to steer Ethiopiaโ€™sย transition to modern, clean energy. Specifically, we incorporate behavioural analysis into energy systemย modelling โ€“ putting stakeholders at its heart to achieve an unprecedented degree of inclusivity. The projectย quantifies the energy, economic and environmental impacts of the many possible developmental pathwaysย for Ethiopia.

The Open Source Energy Modelling tools OSeMOSYS1ย and ONSSET2have been used to model theย electricity supply system of Ethiopia,,asa long- term open-sourceenergy system modelsand a number ofย scenarios examined to provide an overview of possible energy system pathways focusing on powerย generation mix (grid, mini-grid, stand-alone), investments, emissions, etc.. The tools are widely used byย academics in research and national governments for their policy planning. They are also regularly used inย capacity building activities by UNDP, UNDESA, WBG, EC projects – as their transparency allows forย rigorous review.ย By attending our Virtual Exchange, you will be able to share your ideas on the current Ethiopian electricalย power system and explore pathways to the future energy mix considering different scenarios. We appreciateย if you could also forward this email to your colleagues who can contribute to the discussion. If you haveย any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.ย
