Hanoi, Vietnam hosted the 2025 P4G (Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030) Summit from April 14th to 17th, 2025 under the theme ‘Sustainable and People-Centered Green Transition’. It passed the torch to Ethiopia to host the fifth P4G summit in 2027.
The P4G initiative is a global platform that aims to accelerate partnerships for green and inclusive growth in developing countries. It focuses on addressing critical challenges related to food, water, energy, sustainable cities, and the circular economy, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Agreement on climate change.
P4G’s core members include:
P4G also engages a broader network of over 90 nations, international organizations, and businesses. The initiative supports public-private partnerships by providing financial and technical assistance to early-stage businesses that offer climate solutions.
The summits are biennial events that bring together leaders from government, business, civil society, and international organizations to foster collaboration and drive action towards a sustainable future. Previous P4G Summits were held in Denmark (2018), South Korea (virtually in 2021), and Colombia (2023)
Ethiopia Launched P4G National Platform in 2017. The Ethiopian government launched a P4G national platform as part of its ambitious plan to achieve development through green growth. P4G (Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030), supported by the Danish government, is a space for innovative partnerships with businesses, national and city leaders, financiers, and community development advocates to work towards solutions in support of sustainable and inclusive development.
At the 2025 P4G Vietnam Summit, P4Gโs Executive Director Robyn McGuckin announced $4.7 million in grant funding to be provided to 17 innovative startup partnerships in Africa, Latin America and Southeast Asia. This financing will help early-stage businesses become investment-ready, enabling them to scale climate solutions like sustainable agriculture, food loss and waste, energy storage solutions and water security.
Startups can play a catalytic role in advancing the climate transition, yet they remain significantly underfunded, saidย Robyn McGuckin, Executive Director, P4G. With P4Gโs specialized support, these startups will scale investable adaptation and mitigation solutions that will not only build resilience in climate-vulnerable regions but also create pathways for sustainable economic growth and private-sector investment.
Some of the partnerships receiving funding include:
P4G received 150 applications for this round of funding. An Independent Grants Committee, comprising climate and impact investing experts, evaluated the shortlisted partnerships to select the final recipients.
At the P4G Viet Nam Summit 2025, HE Abiy Ahmed, Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, in his speech emphasized three key action points essential for advancing climate action. He stated that
- First, we must prioritize climate finance by securing adequate, predictable, and sustainable resources.
- Second, we must significantly increase Africaโs share of global energy investment, from the current 2% to 20% by 2030, to support sustainable development and safeguard the continentโs critical ecosystems.
- Third, urgent measures are needed to protect nature by combating biodiversity loss and land degradation. This includes funding grassroots initiatives like the Green Legacy Initiative and ensuring fair and equitable benefit-sharing mechanisms for local communities,
