Electricity gridsย represent the backbone of current and future power systems, allowing electricity to flow from the point of production to the point of consumption and enabling a host of productive uses across economic sectors.ย Today, electrical infrastructure is more crucial than ever, and nowhere is it more critical than in Africa, a continent with low levels of electricity access and low quality of service standing in stark contrast with the needs of its rapidly growing populations and economies.
For this reason, RES4Africa is about to launch its new strategic programmeย Grids4Africa, conceived and developed in collaborationย with its members with extensive expertise in grids. This initiative marks the beginning of a series of activities dedicated to supporting the development of electricity networks in Africa and aims to contribute to the understanding of the challenges and opportunities associated with electricity grids and a green recovery in Africa.ย
The launch event, scheduled for theย 15th of July at 10:30 (GMT+2), will provide an occasion to present RES4Africaโs position and outline the goals of the programme. The half-day event hosted by RES4Africa will count on the participation of several speakers from international companies and agencies active in this sector, who will share their views and knowledge to facilitate a lively and thought-provoking discussion about the challenges and opportunities represented by African grids, including access and reliability, digitalisation, and project financing.
